December was truly a rewarding month for all of us at Dublin Montessori. We were given the opportunity to help a local family during the holiday season when there was no hope of the family having a happy Christmas, let alone being able to provide gifts for the children. Every tag on the giving tree was selected and our parents often provided more than what was requested. There was something for each member. The financial gifts as well as grocery gift cards were numerous and enough to help the family through the rough times.
It is much more rewarding to give than to receive, and I know that when each family dropped off their donation, an inward glow of satisfaction was felt. It was an honor to truly help this family during the holiday season, they will never forget our families’ generosity and kindness. Also, our traditional collection of canned food goods for St. Stephen’s Community Center was a great success. Many gave so those in need could have a food basket for the holiday. St. Stephen’s is truly grateful for the school’s yearly commitment to assist in the community. Have you heard the names Becky and Alice? If your child is in Classroom III, Mrs. Carroll and Miss Gilreath, you definitely know these names! Becky (two legged) brings Alice (four furry legged) to the classroom on Mondays so the children can read to Alice – the support dog! It has been a very successful adventure and will now be branching out into the other classrooms. It is a wonderful, calm experience for our children, and it also helps those you might be frightened of a dog, learn how to approach and respect a dog. They love Mondays with Becky and Alice! There are more community service events planned for the year. Thank you for your continued participation. Together, we can make a difference!
