Last Day Celebration

Believe it or not, it is time to start preparing for the last day of school!  For those of you who are new, it is our annual tradition to have a celebration off the premises to
applaud a successful year and congratulate our students who have completed their
kindergarten course of study at DMA and are advancing to first grade. This year’s date is Friday, May 22nd and will take place at the Columbus Zoo.  The celebration will take place at the Pavilion located near Entry Plaza.  The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast to follow.  Please watch for your special invitation which will require a response in order to provide a count to the caterer.  The festivities will end by 11:00 a.m. and you are free to enjoy the zoo on your own for the rest of the day!  The school is closed for the day.  There is no child care before or after the festivities and all children must be accompanied by an adult at the celebration.  More details will follow in the May newsletter.

Playground Safety and Appropriate Clothing

With the weather warming up, the children will begin going outside again.  The children love to be outdoors and this is an opportunity to expend some of their energy after working in the classroom.  They are going to be very active and therefore, require an appropriate pair of shoes and socks.  Open-toed shoes, open-heeled shoes, flip flops, sandals, and shoes with high heels are not appropriate for outdoor play. (CROCS must have backs to be permitted for outside play). We highly recommend tennis shoes with a sturdy and secure fit. Also, for safety reasons, sunglasses are not permitted on the playground.

Please discuss with your child colors, etc. of their clothing so that they may readily identify their spring jackets.  Adding names to the garments helps ensure proper ownership especially in the case of identical articles. Our #1 priority is the safety and well-being of your children.  Please help us in this endeavor.  If you have any questions, please call the office.

Sometimes we are asked “How is the best method for me to contact my child’s teacher”?
The answer to this question is that all communication comes through the office first.  This may be in the form of phone calls or written messages. This way, we know your concerns and can be involved with the situation, if necessary.

The staff is not permitted to contact parents via e-mail, or personal phone calls and all calls regarding your child are documented and placed in your child’s file.  The staff is also made aware of professional guidelines if and when using social media. This is the best way that we know how to serve you and also the best way we know how to protect the confidentially of all.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you!
Jill Roshon

Teachers Want to Know…
Sometimes things happen outside of school that upset children’s feelings or affect a child’s mood when they are at school.  For example: Mom and Dad are out of town for the weekend, a good friend is moving away, a family pet dies, etc.  Please feel free to send a note or call the office to make your child’s teacher aware of any situation so they can help your child in any way.

A Big Thank You!
We counted 1,071 Books along with
assorted puzzles and games for the African Library Project.

Thank you for all who have contributed to the Huckleberry House Foundation through snack donations. We are so lucky and proud to have such generous families here at DMA!
